About me

I live, breath and eat fishing. I can still remember the first fish I caught. It was a catfish that I caught on the beach with my dad. I can remember dad hooking the fish then passing the rod to me and saying "pull it in". The best thing was I got to return the favour years later (see my story titled "The memorable Jew").

I started out bait fishing then progressed to lures, hard and soft body. I have even managed to become sponsored by Gobblers lures! I have travelled to the tip of Australia fishing and on numerous occasions, made the trip out to Swains Reef.  I joined the Redland Bay Amateur Fishing Club several years ago and in my first year I got the award for ‘Rookie of the Year’. I now also have my name on the artificial bait lure trophy a couple of times. I’ve been President of the RBAFC and, with the help of my wife, we coordinated their annual Wilson Moreton Bay and Offshore Family Fishing Challenge for two years which was very challenging and very rewarding at the same time.

I love taking out friends and family in my boat and helping them to achieve their Personal Best fish. The look on their faces makes it all worthwhile.

My kids are getting to the age where they are starting to enjoy fishing also. When I take my boys out, fishing is only part of the fun. We pump yabbies, chase slider crabs, build sand castles and look for shells. Because they are only young, I like to make the day as fun as possible so that they think of fishing as fun.

I look forward to sharing with you anything I can think of in regards to fishing so maybe it can help you achieve you Personal Best.

Keep livin’ the dream!

My take on the usual crumbed fish

Instead of using the usual crumbs for crumbing your fish, try using salt and vinegar chips or any other chip flavour you desire. Shallow fry.

Back to Basics - crumbed fish

Can't beat fresh fish!

We like to make our own breadcrumbs by whizzing up some bread, along with some fresh herbs from the garden in our Thermomix (food processor). The crumbs are so much more fluffier than the bought packet crumbs. Flour ➡️ eggs ➡️ crumbs.

Rice bran oil is great for shallow frying as it has a higher burning point. Make sure the oil is really hot by putting the handle of a wooden spoon in the oil. It should have bubbles around the spoon.

A couple of minutes each side is all it takes for the fish to cook. When filleting, I try to make the pieces of fish smaller and roughly the same size. This is so they can all cook evenly. Having smaller pieces (nugget size) is a great way to introduce fish to kids as they get more crumbs with their fish.

Enjoy!
